Co-Founder & Managing Partner

Romen Mathieu is the Co-Founder & Managing Partner of The EuroMena Funds covering the Middle East and Africa. He sits on the Board of Directors of the International Chamber of Commerce in Lebanon.

Romen Mathieu has more than 20 years experience in corporate transactions and family owned businesses, covering Europe and the MENA region. He began his career with Arthur Andersen in its Corporate Restructuring and Finance division in France. He worked with Lazard Frères in M&A, and later became partner at Ernst & Young Corporate Finance and M&A in France. From 1996 to 1998, he headed the Credit department of Banque Saradar in Lebanon.

Romen Mathieu is an active member of renowned organizations supporting SMEs, entrepreneurship programs and corporate governance initiatives across the region.

Among the multitude of functions he holds today, Romen Mathieu is Chairman of Khoury Home S.A.L., the leading household retailer in Lebanon; Chairman of ITWorx Ltd., the largest software development and IT services company in the Middle East; and Vice-Chairman of Al-Oyoun Al-Dawli Hospital, the largest eye care hospital in Egypt.

Romen Mathieu is an Independent Board Member of Chedid Capital Holding S.A.L., which one of its subsidiaries, ChedidRe, is listed among one of the top 20 reinsurance brokers in the world; an Independent Advisory Board Member of MAN Entreprises S.A.L., one of the largest contractors in the Middle East and Africa; a Board member of First National Bank S.A.L., one of the top 10 banks in Lebanon; and a Board member of Sakson Holding S.A.L., one of the top oil drilling companies in the Middle East and Africa.

Romen Mathieu holds two graduate degrees in Finance, DESS (diplôme d’études supérieures spécialisées) and Magistère; and a Master’s degree in Management from the Sorbonne University, France.

Gilles de Clerck

Gilles de Clerck

Co-Founder & Executive Partner

Gilles de Clerck is the Co-Founder and Executive Partner of the EuroMena Fund Management Team since 2005. He chairs and sits on the board of several companies in the MENA region. Mr. de Clerck has more than 20 years of experience in strategy and finance, of which more than 6 years spent in the MENA region with Booz Allen & Hamilton (now Booz & Co) in the restructuring and privatization programs.

He worked in France as a Senior Manager with Vertone, a leading French strategy & management consulting firm. Prior to joining Booz Allen, he worked with L’Oreal in the UAE as an Area Manager and with Price Waterhouse Coopers as an auditor.

Gilles de Clerck holds a graduate degree from the ESSEC School of Management in Paris and a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the McGill University in Montreal. He holds a French Baccalaureate from the Grand Lycee Français de Beirut. He is fluent in Arabic, English and French.

Paul Khoury

Paul Khoury is a Partner at The EuroMena Funds. He has a broad investment experience gained in both developed and emerging markets. Prior to joining EuroMena, he was the Managing Director of DIFC-based Lagoon Capital Partners, one of the first entities focused on secondary private equity in the MENA region. Prior to his involvement in setting-up and managing Lagoon Capital, he was at QInvest for 5 years, where he led the firm’s MENA private equity initiative.

Earlier in his career, Paul Khoury spent 6 years at Natixis Private Equity where he originated and executed various private equity and venture capital transactions. He gained his M&A experience at the Financial Institutions Group at Lehman Brothers.

Paul Khoury graduated with an MBA from INSEAD and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from the American University of Beirut.

Frederic Dib

Frederic Dib

Portfolio Manager

Frederic Dib is a Portfolio Manager at the EuroMena Funds. He has more than 6 years’ experience in Investment Management focusing on Growth Equity in Middle East and Africa.

Frederic’s experience covers the full Private Equity cycle including fundraising, deal sourcing, execution, monitoring and exit. During his tenure with EuroMena, Frederic worked on transactions in diversified industries including Business Process Outstanding, FMCG, Healthcare, Food Processing, Banking in various countries within Middle East and Africa. Prior to re-joining the EuroMena Team, Frederic worked with Leap Ventures, a Beirut based Late stage venture capital fund and Force Over Mass, a London based venture capital fund, where he assisted the team in deploying capital, monitoring portfolio companies as well as fundraising new funds.

Frederic holds an MBA from INSEAD and a Bachelor of Business Administration emphasis in Finance from the American University of Beirut.

Jean-Marie Gibeily

Investment Associate

Jean-Marie Gibeily is an Investment Associate at The EuroMena Funds. His role covers Investment Assessment, Due Diligence of potential opportunities, and Monitoring of portfolio companies.

Prior to joining the EuroMena team in 2016, Jean-Marie Gibeily completed internships in various industries and then worked as an Investment Advisor at the Arab Finance Corporation (AFC) in Lebanon.

Jean-Marie Gibeily holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Saint-Joseph University, Lebanon, and a double Master’s degree from EDHEC Business School in Nice, France (Grande Ecole Program, financial economics track).

Christelle Youssef

Chief Financial Officer

Christelle Youssef is the Chief Financial Officer at The EuroMena Funds. She has 8 years of experience in investment management with a focus on Private Equity & Real Estate, in the MENA region. She joined The EuroMena Funds in 2016 as a Chief Accountant before getting promoted to CFO.

Prior to joining EuroMena, Christelle Youssef worked for more than 4 years for MENA Capital as a Senior Accountant. She developed extensive experience and knowledge in the Private Equity & Real Estate fund management accounting & investor relations.

Christelle holds two Master’s degrees, in both Finance and Research, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Finance & Financial Institutions from the Lebanese University, Lebanon.
